What is my role in a band?

This is just as much a review for my own benefit. I’ve heard a lot and thought a lot about what it takes to make a successful band work, and one of the important things is knowing what your role is on the instrument(s) that you play. Here’s what I think.

If you thought my keyboard setup was complicated…

There’s a fantastic site for Native Instruments Kore software that has all kinds of tips and tricks for using Kore and a few other NI products. This week, they ran a long article on the keyboard setup for the band Interpol. I don’t know Interpol, but I’ll definitely be checking them out. They don’t seem to have a regular keyboard player as a band member; I’m curious to know who recorded with them on their albums and who tours with them.

Return To Forever and other musical occurrences

Despite not being in our own church for the past three Sundays (and consequently, me not playing there), I’ve been doing more music than usual lately.

Revamped Live Setup

I’ve redone my live setup again, thanks to some new gear. My new setup has some minor issues with the software that I’m still working out, but it’s designed to be a lot easier to expand and tweak on the fly, as well as making actual performance easy.

Playing on a worship team

I play various instruments on worship teams at church, and as such, was involved in a discussion last month about the things we were doing right and things that could be improved on. As follow-up, someone e-mailed a link to some YouTube videos by worship leader Paul Baloche that raised some interesting points, as well as many that I disagree with.
