Alida, a friend of Jen’s who was in our wedding party, is currently studying theatre at the California Institute of the Arts. She has an interesting perspective about how, despite her Christian faith and her desire to be involved in Christian theatre, she can support the efforts of quality art of all kinds, even while disagreeing with the content. I’m not much of a theatre person, but it got me thinking about how this relates to music.

The paradox of performance
Posted by Mike on January 31, 2009
I’m odd as a musician: I both love, and hate, performing, and it’s not for usual reasons like being nervous.

Gaming not an addiction…most of the time
Posted by Mike on November 27, 2008
I’ve posted on this before on a previous blog, but I’ve held to the opinion that playing games for a significant amount of time isn’t usually an addiction, and I’ve finally found someone with credentials who agrees.

What is the purpose of a worship band?
Posted by Mike on November 16, 2008
Music is a big part of most people’s lives; even the non-musical recognize tunes and jingles from commercials, and it’s rare for someone to never voluntarily listen to music in any format. Music is also central to a church service. Many churches call their services “worship services”, and many people equate worship to singing and making music.
I believe worship is much more than just music, but that’s a separate discussion. Right now, I want to consider the purpose of music in worship.

Windows “Mojave” – Poor Research
Posted by Mike on August 29, 2008
Windows Vista has a bad reputation. I ran Vista for less than three weeks when it shipped on my new laptop before upgrading to XP. My wife will be doing the same this weekend. Many who have tried Vista don’t like it for various issues, and rightly so. I gave it a fair try, and it failed to meet my needs. Of course, many people like Vista too, but because of changes in so many key areas that a lot of potential knowledgeable users viewed as negative, there’s no denying that Vista has a bad reputation.
Enter the Mojave Experiment.
